Lately for Lucy

Lucy has been as busy as can be lately. She is really enjoying being here so close to her cousins and surrounded by so many friends. There seems to always be someone to play with and fun to be had. She's at the age where it seems she must be doing something all the time or I hear, "I'm SOO BORED!"

A couple weeks ago her school had an Arts Festival night. Her class put on a cute little play. Lucy's part was a zebra along with her friend, Jain. She was nervous the days leading up to the program because she was afraid she wasn't going to be loud enough. On the way to the school that night, she said, "I sure wish Dad was here." She asked me over and over if I had my video camera so Dad would be able to see it when he got back.
A few weeks back, we had an incident at the park that was a little traumatic. We were there with my sister and her kids. Oliver was climbing on the outside of a big tube slide. He's a pretty good climber, so we weren't worried.
Lucy decided to join him. Heidi turned to me a couple times and said, "Is she okay up there?" I didn't think anything of it and allowed her to continue to climb. I looked over a minute later to see her trying to maneuver a rather tricky part of the slide and watched as she fell from the very top and landed flat on her stomach ten feet below. It looked so horrible! I was sure that she had broken a rib or something. It knocked the wind out of her pretty good, but the only wounds she had were these scratches on her chin. Her jaw was sore for a couple days.
Later that week our ward had an activity that we attended. It was an airband concert. They let the kids get up on stage at the end and dance. I just love this picture because Lucy looks so happy up there with two of her best buds, Abby and Oliver.

Here she is again at the school carnival last week. Earlier that afternoon she participated in a mile walk with her school.

Lucy has poured on the sass lately, too. The other day we were saying our morning prayer before she left for school. I had told her we were going to the park after she got out of class and she wanted Abby to come. I told her that we were going before Abby was out of school. She was not happy. Moving on to the prayer, she said her usual things, "Bless we will have fun today. Bless Dad that he'll be safe. Bless that we will be kind" and then she stopped for a second and whispered something and then closed the prayer. I asked her what she had whispered and she didn't want to tell me. Finally she did. This is what she had said, "Please bless that Abby can come to the park with us." I told her that Abby wasn't going to be able to come and she said, "Well, Jesus will make it happen!" We've had similar conversations where she has said, "Jesus made me do it!" after pinching her cousin, George. Seems we have some teaching to do in the Jesus department.
It's crazy to me how the same child can be so sweet one minute and then super snotty and sassy the next. I thought I had 7 or 8 years before this!
We sure love our Lucy and all the adventures that come with her.

That is so funny! When my niece was once forced to stay at the table eating her vegetables, she finally erupted with, "I wish Jesus were here--HE loves children!" Truly, in the mouths of children!
