Cake Update....

I thought I would update you all on the cake I made for the scout auction. Some asked if I came up with the idea on my own.....the answer is a big fat no way. My friend, Jill got if off the internet.

When we arrived at the church for the spaghetti dinner, Lucy promptly got out of her car seat (she can undo it on her own) and jumped down right onto the cake. My work of art was covered with foil, but her shoe still left an imprint. Awesome.

On a positive note.....some people took pity on my popcorn cake and it went for like $18!

Graham's First Shiner

Graham got his first black eye this weekend. We went to the park on Saturday (no rain....yippee!!) and after I kicked Jason's trash on the basketball court, we decided to head over to the big toy and swings. I was in the mood to do some more butt kickin', so I challenged Jason to a game of 2 -square on the sidewalk. Lucy was flying high on the swings as Graham wandered around the slide and stairs. We failed to see Graham walk over to the swings (the score was Maggie-7 Jason-0). Next thing you know, Graham is on the ground after Lucy kicked him in the face on the upswing of her ride in the sky. In her defense, he came from behind and didn't see him coming. In our defense......there really isn't any defense...we should have been watching. Although, the game was very intense. Yesterday at church we had some explaining to do. After reading my "Down in the Dumps" post from last week, many might be worried that I had taken my irritation to a new level. Not the case.....just a tough day at the park (for Graham AND Jason) ha ha!

President Gordon B. Hinckley 1910-2008

I've already read many other posts on our beloved prophet's passing, but I just wanted to share a little of my thoughts. I feel so blessed to have been able to live during his service as our prophet. Like many of you, I have had many life changes and transitions as he led the church. His words have brought comfort and peace but also motivation to try a little harder and be a little better.

I just love this picture of President and Sister Hinckley. He will be greatly missed, but I am so happy for the two of them!

We baked a cake!

Check out the cake my friend, Jill, and I made! Our ward is having a Spaghetti Dinner tonight as a fundraiser for the scouts and there is also a cake auction. We made a lady bug cake, too! Hopefully you can tell this one is a box of movie popcorn.

Down in the Dumps

Prepare yourself for some rambling and venting......

Well, it's been a tough couple days for me here in Lemoore. I am terribly homesick for my family and those feelings are seeping into the rest of my life and making me discontent. I miss having somewhere that I can go for a change of scenery. I have wonderful, amazing friends here in Lemoore, but I don't feel like I can just invade their house without a reason or scheduled time. I miss knowing that I have that option.

It's been rainy and dreary here for a while and so we can't go outside. We're all getting a little stir crazy. Which leads to me being impatient with my children and they begin to annoy the heck out of me. Which leads to major feelings of guilt for being so irritated by my own offspring-- what if something happened to one of my kids....I would feel horrible! Then I hear stories of women who can't have children or loses one of theirs........and here I am whining about having to stop scrubbing the syrup off the counter to fix the DVD that got stuck in the middle of Lucy's viewing of Cinderella. Sometimes I feel like my kids got short changed with a crazy mom who can't handle much and has a tendency to complain a lot.

Does anyone else have times in their lives when every move they make is accompanied with some level of guilt. The voice in my head sounds something like this, "Your kids watch too much TV....your zapping their brain cells." or "Your kids don't eat enough fruits and vegetables....they're going to have bad eating habits and be huge!" "Why is Lucy throwing those tantrums...what did you do wrong!" Why is Graham yelling so much.....you must yell too much." "You can't eat that....you've already had 6!" And the voice goes on and on. Am I the only one who hears this voice?

I'm making my way out of the dumps. I know that I am so very blessed with a wonderful husband and healthy, happy children. I have great friends who are so willing to help and serve me and family who will listen to me over the phone go on and on and on until I feel better. For now, I'll keep fixing the DVD player and scrubbing the syrup......while I plan a trip to Hawaii!

Snow Day!

Jason had Monday off, so we decided to go sledding with a group of our friends from the ward. Keep in mind, we live in central California, so it took a good 2 hours to get to the snow. Graham has decided that he does not like being in his car seat, so the drive to Shaver Lake was awesome! When we finally got there, we had a great time. It was very cold (we're used to 50 degree days), but we came prepared. Lucy and Graham looked so cute bundled up in their clothes. We had to borrow snow pants and boots from neighbors. Yes....Graham is wearing purple pants and pink boots. Don't worry, he survived the taunting from the other kids. Although, he wasn't warm enough and he kept getting really mad whenever he fell down. He didn't have a very good time. Lucy, on the other hand, LOVED it! I was surprised at how fearless she was. She kept asking on the way home when we were going to go back.

These Boots Were Made For Walkin.....

Lucy loves her boots she got for Christmas (some of you may remember how she asked for "boots that light up"). Well, I searched on the internet and found these little babies. Her little face beams with pride when people tell them how cute they are. I was a little nervous when I bought them that she would want to wear them EVERYWHERE and I wouldn't be able to pry them off her. Luckily, she understands the idea behind "matching" clothes, so she doesn't give me a hard time when I tell her they don't match what she's wearing. Last week when I picked her up from preschool, her teacher asked me, "Does Lucy sing a lot at home?" My answer was a quick, "Yep...all day long." She usually makes up her own little songs by mixing parts of different songs to make her own original version. Her teacher explained how she always sings during class, but that particular day she was quite captivating. I guess while everyone was working on an art project at the table, they all stopped to listen while she sang, "1.2.3 like a bird I sing. Cause you've given me the most beautiful set of wings!" She only knows that one line, so I added it to my playlist so she could learn the rest. What a funny girl!
